On August 18, 2024, Founder & CEO of VinBrain, Mr. Steven Truong, attended the GenAI Summit 2024, themed "Uncharted Frontiers" in Ho Chi Minh City. He joined world-leading AI experts, including Mr. Jeff Dean, Chief Scientist at Google, co-founder of Google Brain, Google Translate, and Gemini, to discuss and contribute their perspectives on three main topics: The Foundation Models of GenAI, Practical Applications of GenAI, and Opportunities for Vietnam.

GenAI Summit 2024 is the first GenAI conference in Vietnam, continuing the annual series of prestigious international AI conferences. This event gathered top AI experts, offering innovative and inspiring presentations, opening up new ideas for the attendees.

In the opening remarks of the conference, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc shared, “According to research on Vietnam's digital economy by Google, it is forecasted that by 2030, the annual economic impact of digital technology in Vietnam could reach VND 1,733 trillion (equivalent to USD 74 billion), with AI making a significant contribution to various digital economy sectors. According to research by Thundermark Capital, Vietnam and Singapore are the two Southeast Asian representatives in the world’s Top 30 AI research.”

In the first presentation session, Mr. Steven Truong led the audience to explore the "New Horizons" in AI technology with the topic “Applications of Generative AI - Opportunities and Challenges in Building AI for Healthcare in Vietnam.”

Mr. Steven shared his experience in developing DrAid™ Copilot, a 24/7 virtual medical assistant within VinBrain’s AI ecosystem that utilizes GenAI technology as a prime example. DrAid™ Copilot is also the first AI healthcare assistant in Southeast Asia, integrated with the most advanced GenAI technologies and capable of natural language interaction. DrAid™ Copilot not only saves doctors time in searching for information but also compiles this information into standard medical formats. It has proven its usefulness by providing limitless experiences in both space and time, from screening, searching, and retrieving medical information and data to reporting medical records and creating visual charts.

What sets DrAid™ Copilot apart from other AI chatbots is that the reports it generates are standardized according to the RadReport format of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), reducing the time and effort needed for daily reporting tasks by two-thirds. DrAid™ Copilot can also translate reports into more than 25 languages, making it invaluable for doctors when they need to consult and communicate with international colleagues.

Mr. Stevem emphasized that while Generative AI offers numerous opportunities for innovation and efficiency in healthcare, its implementation in Vietnam also presents significant challenges. These challenges include ensuring data privacy in AI applications and the adaptability of the healthcare system to this new technology. He called for collaboration among stakeholders to overcome these challenges while maximizing the opportunities that Generative AI presents.

With insights from an “insider’s perspective,” VinBrain’s CEO provided valuable and practical information on the high impact of GenAI applications in the healthcare industry.

Following the inspiring presentation, CEO's VinBrain, alongside Jeff Dean and other leading experts, engaged in a lively discussion on the question, "What opportunities and challenges does Vietnam face in becoming a leading AI hub in the region?"

Dr. Jeff Dean, Google's Chief Scientist, revealed breakthroughs in generative artificial intelligence through Google’s advanced Gemini models. He highlighted how Gemini 1.5 Pro, Google’s revolutionary AI infrastructure, excels at handling vast data contexts, including text, audio, images, and video. "Our goal is to create an all-in-one model that tackles challenges in text, image, audio, and video under one roof," Dr. Jeff Dean shared.

Mr. Steven Truong expressed his view that Vietnam stands before a significant opportunity to develop into a leading AI hub. However, to achieve this goal, Vietnam must invest heavily in education and workforce training while building a cohesive and supportive AI community. He also emphasized the role of events like GenAI Summit 2024 in connecting industry experts, fostering the development of the AI community, and attracting talent to work for leading AI companies in Vietnam.
